fcal points in black in white part one

we had to choose a black and white picture cut from newspaper articles. the picture i chose was of this football play.  again we had to chose only six circles varying in sizes , ad i chose to focus on the helmets and rhe football. so , originally looking at the picture upside down , i chose where the dots would fit best. the picture above was my product. xp i thought it represented it quite well :) .

addictive..quizical..happy.... 0.o im seeing dots

this assignment required us to create a six circle piece that had to represent our word. this is pretty much the same assignment as the squares and circles -- so basic concetps xp

cardboard claw cont..

slowly but surely its coming along, surprisingly i successfully got the curves and shape of the back side of the claw : D the huge tube coming out of it is the arm ligament that will make it mobile and move like a real claw xp more updates as the process goes on :p

2d reading 1/26/11

this reading informed me about some of the basics of art such as proximity, space, balance, symetry, depth, and more. after reading it i realized that those concepts were what we hve been trying to learn and acomplish this week with the cirlce project and well as last week with the square projects. i now have a better understanding of what we were doign exactly and why. hehe i probably should have read them earlyer but yea xp. either way it was an interesting read.

focus connection (....im not sure if were supposed to post this but.. )

our hw was to show the conecction and magnetism between each circle and the stronger more focused ones had darker mor intense lines to show that .

the top one is showing the focus connection in the peice called bouncy.
-this peice has more forcus than the one on the bottom. the focus is mainly within the top 3 middle circles, mostly because of the size and distance ( or rather closeness ) of them. overall there is more movement in bouncy than there is in the next peice. also most of your focus is in the mtop middle in a curving vertical motion.

the bottom one is showing the focus connection in the peice called peacful
-not as much focus going on here that as the last one. the main point of focus is held by the two bigger circles in the bottom left. there are smaller focus points as well, but the second most atractive point of movement is within the relationship of the two smaller circles seemingly curving the oposite direction of the bigger ones. thoguh this does not have as much movement, to me the movements are subtle , simple, and peaceful :)

cardboard replica--crab claw

<--- this is my crab claw. : )
the class has to make a replica of their object, mine is a crab claw ( the one showed above lol ). yea making outa cardboard may not sound too difficult..but it has to be around 30".. which is like 30 times the m=normal size of my object..that just means more fun in my opinion : D.  i was going to scetch out  the whole thing and transfer it to create the base, but then i thought.. what if i can make it move like a real claw? so instead of sketching the whole thing, i took apart the arm and sketched the parts i thoguht i would need to make it . i listede  hwere the joints were/needed to be to make it possible to move ( hopefully).  this is part of my sketch and analyzation ---v
<---- i disected the arm into 3/4 different parts , the maind arm ( not seen in the sketch above ) the elbow joint , and the actual claw and top part of the claw.  now that my sketch was done i needed to see if i could actually make it move. so i created a mini very scrappy rough draft of the claw. ---v
<--- this is my mid the same thing with the arni scrappy MOVABLE! crab claw lol its like almost a foot long and like an inch or 2 tall ( wich a claw opening span of 4 1/2 - 5 " : D ) .
to make this cardboard claw able to move like the real one, i needed to figure out a way to make the cardboard strong yet kind of elasticy and bendably, and i needed it to function like a rea elbow -- being able ot go backwards a bit and bend forward till the forarm and "hand" touch ( the hand is pretty much the big front part of the claw thats not the pointy  beak like atachements. ) so i desided to see what wet cardboard would do , and that was a succes. i mad a loong rectangluar peice and rolled it up in a qurish cylinder thing , gluded it together and let it dry a bit then soaked it. i then  did the same thing with the arm but did not wet it and i wrapped it around the wet flexible cardboard and glued that. i contiuned that process as far as the arm elbow and main part of the claw. as for the pincehers themselfs, i bent the top part enough for it to stay open like iwanted but can be moved to meet the obottom piincher. the bottom pincher is actually inside the main claw part and can also move, just not as much as the top pincher - like a real crab ( at least like the crab claw i have lol )
now im on to creating the big final model. im going to use the same concept and steps as the smaller one but with more detail and ( for lack of better words and i know this isnt a word but.. ) exactness. then i think im going t owrap parts of it in craft paper to make it "shell" like : ). all in a weekes work lol xp

circular creations

todays 2d assiegnment was to randomly place cirlce varying in size all over a hudge sheet of paper and , using a 5"x5" veiw finder , find different compositions and recreate them on a  5"x5" peice of paper. this was similar to the square assignment but this time we could use as many circles as we wanted and there were less limitations. as far as choosing what would make the best composition, i started with choosing something that caught my eye and if i liked it or not. i did the same thing with the others but some i chose because it reminded me of something .  for example the upper left reminds me of outer space and the planet jupiter and all its moons, and the upper right reminds me of yin and yang.
we also had to name them by choosing an adjective of what it made us feel or think about.  ( top left is called peaceful) . my group measured them according to depth and flatness- which is why i have the one with 3 simple circles, its more flat than my other ones. and the so called flower  ( whihc was supposed to be more star like but i think the smaller outer dots threw that off ) was intentionally made to be pretty :)
creating these peices were similar to the point of the squares just dealing with slightly different elements and rules :)

square art ( not sure what else to call it lol :) )

our assignment was to use 10 1"x1" squares to create peices that were rough, smooth, light, heavy, anxious, relxed, energetic, and chaotic. the light and heavy projects where the only ones tht could overlap, the rest could not ( the rules changed mid way lol ). these are some of my peices, and they are also my favorite, both in compesition and in what they symbolize and the story behind some of them :D.

as far as how i created them, most are just randomly placed blocks that i think reflect how each one would feel. however some symbolize objects or have a story behind them , so in other words they are actually something other than squares. to me this project was interesting and helped me realize how people see different images based on events and memories in thier lives as well as how much one can really do with some thing limited and simple.

art lecture 1/21/11

This lecture made me realize some of the boudaries between different arts and how today those boundaries are becoming blured together and less defined. It also helped me better understand what is considered art and what is not, as well as how others veiw and interprite different kinds of artwork ( and if they see it as art or not , even if it tecnically is or isnt ).  Also most of the art I like are more stylized and realistic than natural. However i do admire abstract art but i would have to say stylized is my favorite, though im not entirerly sure why at the moment.

newspaper structure

When first faced with this assignment I had a difficult time deciding what I should build. One of my first thoughts was of a tower of cards and how the cards stack upon each other, so I went with that method. Once I folded the newspaper into the triangular shapes I wanted, I realized that the cinder block would instantly crush them. So I decided to stuff tight balls of paper inside each triangle. After i glued all those together I needed to figure out how to make it taller in the least amount of time, so I had to resort in quickly rolling up the paper and gluing them one above the other in alternating directions. This was my first idea and it worked out ok, not the best but it was doable. If i were to do it again I would concentrate more on the height and less on the strength of the base, and work more on making it higher and sturdy. I over-thought how much the cinder block would weigh and spend too much time on making my structure hold together.
